Greatly considered the most significant tournament in the school netball calendar, the 29th Sri Lanka Schools Netball Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association under the guidance of the Ministry of Education was held from the 11th to the 13th of November, at the Albert F. Peiris Stadium in Wennappuwa. The tournament was conducted in two divisions (A and B), in four age groups: under 13, 15, 17, and 19, drawing almost 5000 promising school netball players from around the country.
Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala, took the Milo Netball Trophy home for the 13th consecutive year, securing the best player titles of all four age groups. Taniya Gunasekara became the Best Player in the Under 19 category, while Akithma Abeysinghe won the title in the Under 17 category. Nethuni Jayawickrama clinched the Best Player title of the Under 15 age group while Rehansa Thisumli Wijerthne gained recognition as the Best Player of the Under 13 category.
The Sri Lanka national netball team, who won the Asian Netball Championship in 2022, also graced the event on the first day with their presence, motivating the young contestants. Having been part of the same journey as the students themselves, the team’s success stories were certainly a great inspiration for budding netball players hoping to represent Sri Lanka at an international level in the future. This event was sponsored by Nestlé Milo for the 29th consecutive year as a brand that delivers the promise to nourish children to go further.
